Cet article montre comment les excès du libéralisme ont entraîné a crise de 29 aux Etats-Unis ; dans le même temps, les abus du puritanisme ont permis l’éclosion de la maffia. De la conjonction de ces deux facteurs est né le roman policier « noir » et son personnage emblématique, le « privé ».
